No, the settlement will be explained to retirees and members at informational meetings. This settlement should not affect anyone still working at the Post-Dispatch, as the contract they ratified in March of 2010 did away with retiree medical insurance for those retiring from that point forward.

Are the points of the settlement listed anywhere, and how will the affect people close to retiring?

Lacey, you're right all of those are issues and we can discuss them at the general meeting on Thursday if you like. The delay in the employee being notified about being laid off was the company's bad that stemmed from an error in their record keeping of employee job classifications. I'm not sure why they waited until Monday to complete the layoff and inform the employee. If the company is withdrawing personal days or having people work on their vacations please call the Guild office or talk to any of the Guild officers who work on the fifth floor to let us know about the issues. If you'd like, call the Guild office on Monday to discuss the problems with either Shannon or Mary.

How about a meeting to discuss how awful things have gotten, such as withdrawn personal days, working on your vacation, working 8, 9 or 10 days straight. Working 15 out of 16 days. How about an employee not being informed he was laid off until three days later? How about a meeting to discuss those things?

Since returning to the St. Louis media region in 1996, our household has consistently used KSDK for our local news, and continued with NBC, primarily due to the caliber of broadcasging talent available. I note a deterioration in the quality of control room atvity as practically every day, and often, more than once per day, there are gaps, overlaps, mixed tapes, etc. while staff are attempting to report news. Such must be extremely frustrating to the person(s) involved, and must be corrected, or the quality broadcasters will leave for more supportive stations, and viewers like me, will seek other sources for news. KSDK had been the gold standard in St. Louis, and the staff still is, but quality is rapidly slipping. JMac.

Yellow is at least a year behind blue: the grievance over the blue violation was filed in December of 2008 and, after the company refused to participate in the grievance process, we filed our lawsuit shortly after that. The violation of our yellow retiree's rights didn't occur until December, 2010 - two full years after blue. So that case has a ways to go yet.

Virginia, for all anyone knows, this could be the corporate strategy - keeping everything tied up in the courts until everyone is dead. And, though I agree that 'justice delayed is justice denied' the process is what it is. That's a key reason why we were motivated to settle this thing. The harm all this is causing just keeps mounting. Who knows how many more people like Robert Douglas are out there? In the meantime, we just keep fighting.
